My Saturday night thing.

Firing up some tunes to give you all an overview of the game I have been running on Saturdays.  This is a novice game in which two of the players have limited role-playing experience so I have been taking it easy on them as far as the ROLE part of the play goes.  The characters have simple motivations and I have been slowly pushing them to act in character.  Lets start by introducing the characters and their players.

Name: Tully

Player: Charles Brooks

Class: fighter

Race: Human

A barbarian from the northern mountains.  Headed south originally to see if he could find out what happened to his parents.  In the south lands his red hair marks him as a barbarian making him an easy mark for thieves and brigands.

##################################################################################

Name: Ethia

Player: Rosa Weber

Class: Thief

Race: Elf

Having fled the dull and boring life of the long lived elven people, she seeks adventure among the mixture of races outside of the elven homelands.

##################################################################################

Name: Gina

Player: Rose Brooks

Class: Wizard

Race: human

A young wizard from the once prosperous farming community of Valen which has been captured by the Blackfist Orc tribe.  She leaves with the red haired barbarian and the Elven rogue to take her chances outside of the terrorized town and to find help for her people.

The story thus far….

Ethia and Tully meet at a crossroads by a wayfarers shrine and head south.  They take shelter and provisions from the shrine and decide to travel south.  On the road they have to fend off goblin scouts before arriving in the large village of Valen as they pass through its outlying farmland they see some goblins fighting over food harvested from the fields.  In the town they learn it has been taken over by the Blackfist Orcs who seem to be a well organised group that uses the goblins as scouts.  These Orcs have taken anything of major value from the town and massed it at the mayors estate, they patrol the streets, and leave the humans alone as long as they stay indoors as much as possible.

Having their wounds treated by the local priest of Ulhuan, they decide they alone cannot help Valen, so they volunteer to head east to a bigger city in hope of finding help.  A young mistress of the arcane named Gina introduces herself and is invited to leave with Ethia and Tully.   They leave in a small wagon under the cover of night.  On the road they see a ruined castle tower in the distance, encounter human bandits who use an herbed drink to knock out Tully in hopes of selling the young barbarian to slavers, and have a conversation with two Bugbear mercenaries who trade info with the players and offer to buy Tully for one hundred gold coins.

They enter the forest crossing over a bridge under which they hear strange sounds..fearing trolls they cautiously investigate only to discover giant toads croaking away.  Deciding to leave them be the cross over and discover an abandoned temple and decide to explore it.  Upon entering they learn it is dedicated to the Nehuan, the lord of the dead.  They discover the giant staue is set on rollers and pushes back easily revealing a ladder down.  Behind one of three doors they have a run in with the animated remains of the temple gaurdians.  Tully, having suffered many wounds, is unconscious.  So Ethia and Gina use their tarp and harnesses to haul the unconscious barbarian out of the temple.

After field dressing his wounds they travel three hours to the town of Kalen and locate the temple of Ulhuan and have the priest heal them.  They rest at the Inn of the Drunken Mage located in the town circle have a good meal and rest and head back to the temple, encounter more minions wielding special ceremonial daggers.  During this fight both the wizard and the barbarian succomb to their wounds leaving the injured Elven thief to face down the minions of the undead by herself.  After nerve wracking battle the victorious thief tends her wounds and those of her fallen comrades and laboriously pulls the unconscious companions out of the temple, loads them into the wagon, and two hours later travels back to Kalen and the Temple.

After another round of healing and another spectacular meal, the crew decides the accumulated  riches are worth the pain and plan another trip to the temple to investigate the last door.  This time they take down two zombie priest in a burial chamber,  loot two chests and ponder over what to do with the sarcophagus in the center.  This time they go with the barbarian and pry the lid off.  Inside there are no remains, only some coins, a couple of gems, and an ancient ring.  where is the body that was sealed in their so long ago….?

They travel back with their treasures to The Drunken Mage.  Decide to go to the Fortress city of Caer Brune where they are told are strong warriors.  The Inn keeper gives them a bill to take to the owner of the Blackwolf tavern.  They travel the safe road and arrive at the walls of the fortress in the purple pre-dawn.  They deliver their bill and the request for help which is investigated by a member of a knightly order (the wolf Brotherhood) who tells them the king and the Brotherhood wants them to present their case.  Meanwhile the barbarian who went off to take a bath gets robbed in the crowd.  The Brotherhood sends out a messenger to retrieve him and they are all taken by carriage to the spires of the high citadel and allowed access to bath services.  The king, High Laird of Caer Brune, sends a knight to replace Tullys’ lost coin.  leaving Tully to wonder why the king is being so nice…

Thats it in a nutshell, I have omitted some details for brevities sake.  Next week I will begin pushing for some more character driven actions.

  1. sounds good so far. think a 1/2ling healer with a minotaur mount is needed. hopefully the barbarian does NOT take a liking to spikey shoulder pieces.
good luck and safe journey to the adventurers.
